A Soldier’s Last Moments | Torpor

*Gun Shot* [Bird caws] Oh jeez… *Shuffling* Hello everybody, my name is Markiplier, and welcome to Torpor. Now this game is supposed to be a narrative experience, or maybe not even narrative It’s about *Inhale* the story of a soldier, who I’m assuming- Oh.. Hi. What in the world? woooahhh… It’s about a soldier who was just shot and either his life is flashing before is eyes or, *Click* I don’t know something I have no idea [Thud] I-I’m going into this pretty blind s-.. whyyyy is there a baby crib there? *Creaking* This is unsettling. This is just weird, it’s jarring, because I just got in the game and as soon as I load it up Bang! we’re here. What is this? I mean obviously it’s someone’s home and they had a loving family. I’m assuming, cause this is a game about a, soldier getting shot it’s gonna be sad I bet. And it seems to be like World War II era, If I’m not entirely mistaken, but… (Mumbling) You know that’s all I’m saying that all sounds great. *Creaky steps* *Footsteps* Hello? Hi! Also! I ne- I never even realized how weird it was that the soldier had the teddy bear with him. at the time of his de- Oh?… *Inhale* Oh these things trigger meh- OHhh!… *Train toots* Oh, so the things with the weird glows around em’ trigger memories Where am I? Hellooo? Hellooo? Eugh. This is creepy I- I don’t even know if this game was supposed to be creepy! Oh jeez, Ahhg..can’t get on there, not allowed. Okay. So… What is happening? It’s just so oddly bizarre. I mean, when I went into this, I was assuming it was gonna be a sad experience but- I can’t go this way either! Well which way am I supposed to go? What am I supposed to do? Oh, oh that was glowing! I didn’t even realize that. That is so cool. *Loud wind blowing* Woah. *Explosion* Oh! I’m in the sky! Oh, I’m a paratrooper. I’m- I’m- Shit’s about to go down! Holy shit. So this is like, reliving moments of his life that lead up to his death? Then he- in that house, there was more than one thing I could have clicked on. Thasso weird. Oop, time to go apparently. *Gun Shot*
Oop, time to go apparently. Back here? What? I guess that led up to the moment immediately before his death, but not… Not the right moment that I’m looking for though. Oh that’s so cool! *Thud* You’re searching through his memories until you get to the right place! Or least that’s what I assume it is. I’m not a 100% sure, but, it could be. Is there a glow on that? No, but there was a glow on the jacket in here. Yeah. That’s so weird. Oh. OH! Oh. *Unidentifiable Click* Woah. Oh. Is the only thing in here that teddy bear? Could there maybe something else hidden in the pews? Probably not. Oh, that’s so weird. It’s just like… wha- what’s fascinating about this game is the jarring transitions of it. The, immediate snap, back and forth through realities. There must be something else that I haven’t touched. Must be a few things. Man, straight to the funeral. Man, someone was trying to write a lot of letters. Wait the suitcase is gone now? So could be other things here? Or maybe I’m just gonna be stuck in limbo in this area forever and ever. Nah, I refuse to believe that. There’s gotta be something here. Ahh, here we go. Eugh. This is a bad connotation if it’s a bottle of pills. But here we go… Eugh. Ahh, therapy. Oh, oh that’s- that’s fun. Ugh, yup. That’s not fun. That was a thing, I’m gonna get back to that, I didn’t realize it was a thing before I clicked on it ok. *Click* (x2) There we go. Where are we going? Oh man. Well I know what the guns do, I don’t wanna touch the guns! Oh man! It’s literally nothing but guns! That’s not good! I uh- I know what every single one of those go to! Oh no. There’s a- There’s bills there, probably just leads back to this room except with LESS GUN! How about the box of tissues? No. Just a bunch of GUN! It’s all GUN! *sighs* Jesu- Alright, I’m gonna try the pills. *Clicking* Oh are these not… these aren’t working anymore! Huh! The pills don’t work anymore. Gun it is, then! *Gun Shot* *Bird Caws*
Yep! Oh, I thought I was gonna come back here. *Soldier’s Body Thuds*
Damn. It’s so bizarre. So bizarre! It’s so bizarre. So weird. So is there anything else in here that I’ve missed? The pills are gone… The jacket’s still there… Why is the jacket still there? Unless I didn’t find what I was looking for in there. The only reason these would still be here, is to find something else, right? Can’t go around the casket. I can’t click on that. So there’s gotta be something else besides the bear. *sigh* I don’t see anything else, so I’m assuming- Man it’s gotta be something else. Oh, the pills are back! That’s- wha- Wait, those are gone, but now the pills are back. But now the suitcase is in that room, why is that in there? Why are the pills back? Is this gonna lead to something new? No, it’s the same thing! It’s the same dang thing! *Clicking* Is this just a loop? *click* I gotta find out more about this, maybe I’m doing something wrong here. Oh! Oh. Oh my god, okay. I- *chuckles* I guess that’s it! I- It says that I’m… There’s all the paths, and, it shows like the timeline of everything going through and where everything leads. I don’t know why I expected there to be an ending to this, considering that it started at the end of this soldier’s life. I guess that’s the end! Man, that’s- th- that’s weird and… actually quite profound, because it’s like one of those situations where I don’t want to accept the end… But it is what it is…. The guy’s dead. What more is there to say? There’s little bits and storytelling in the environment itself, like, why was therapy there? Is that the grieving widow? Did they go to therapy together because their marriage wasn’t working? Why was there a baby crib there? Like, Why was no one at the funeral? Why did he have the teddy bear with him… While he was going there? Maybe the child died… And he took that teddy bear with him to war, I have no idea. There are a lot of things open to interpretation, and I don’t think anyone’s going to be satisfied with one particular answer. But as far as a narrative experience that has absolutely no talking besides my own, *Inhale* That was fascinating. That was really fascinating. I feel like it could be fleshed out more, though.
I feel like it has just very shallow depth, you know…
the storytelling here but there’s- in this style? I like it a lot. I like this story- storytelling style. This is really cool, so… Thank you developers for making the game and thank you everybody for watching. I hope to see more stuff like this in the near future because it’s so interesting to just try to… go through the environment and seek out clues on your own. And… build a story from your own imagination so either way, thank you everybody so much for watching and as always, I will see *you* in the next video. Buh bye!

I think i know who you are, your the soldiers son. When he was small his dad got shot in the army, when he showed up to his funeral with the teddy bear clearly givin to him by his dad. His dad inspires him to join the army and is shot holding the teddy bear as a reminder of his dad's bravery, thus the tree reprsents new life and new death, both him and his dad were shot under it meaning the cycle would continue the same as his fathers. And so that is why you are in an endless loop, child after child continuing their fathers legacy

I think the pieces you could click on disappeared when you got them in the right order. I believe you're playing the soilder who died. You're his spirit and you're seeing all of his memories. About the funereal, I think that either he had a relative or close friend die before the war and his marriage or himself was affected by it badly and went to therapy for it. That orbit was the widow going to therapy their self like Mark said.

heres how i understood the story: a man had a baby (probably a wife too) at home. he joined the army, left on the train and became a paratrooper. he brought his babys bear with him as a memento. he got shot and killed by another soldier. the other soldier saw the bear he was carrying and started thinking about his victim having a family and child at home. he felt guilty for killing a father, a good man. out of guilt, he went to the funeral. he fell into a depression, the pills were either anti-depressants or an addiction. he started seeking therapy, and remembering what happened.

I'm actually a little terrified I was assuming it to be like a horror game and it feels like that to me and it's like.. Damn I'm actually not happy with that it makes me scared and thinking of DYING and seeing your life flash before your eyes SO TERRIBLY SLOWLY and plenty of people I bet. if they were still alive after like being dead that'd be kewl if they could tell us what happens when you die. but no one Ryan WANTS to hear that cause then crap goes wrong, life gets worse for people, and it sucks I wonder if there's more after seeing your life flashing before your eyes what is you think, more..? what someone thinks this DYING and nobody knows? it's creepy.. but at the same time.. legit.. kewl…

I personally thing you're playing as the widow since everything is vivid besides the death the widow is first still happily in love with her army man husband who is at war and she denied the fact that he was killed until the funeral which led her to become depressed morning over her dead spouse so she cleared out every memory she could to try to forget to suppress the depression and got rid of everything in a last ditch effort but she still remembers the day he boarded the train the last time she would see him which leads her to constantly talk about it at therapy and each time she speaks of it she thinks about taking her own life which is why the gun are there and that's why the bear is there under a tree thinking he died but not gruesomely

I think the man committed suicide. That could be why the guns are in the therapist's office, next to some pills that no longer seem to work. Sure, he was a soldier and fought for his country, but that might just be a red herring. He could have had the teddy bear with him when he shot himself, so that could explain why that's there. However, when the soldier is dead, he doesn't even have his gun with him. So I dunno. He was also shot near the shoulder, so… Yeah. That's not a place where you'd shoot yourself, if you wanted to off yourself. Y'know what. Never mind. I guess him shooting himself doesn't actually make much sense. Oh well.

the way I see the events is that you get shot in the war, but live, you end up with ptsd, you're perscribed sleeping pills to help sleep, they don't help enough, you overdose, you die, you get dressed up in your suit and get burried. the reason I think it's this way is because why else would therapy lead to you getting shot? one interpretation is it's someone outside yourself experience grief, or it's a metaphor for how even though you're getting help you feel like the only way out is death. I don't know if it's meant to be savivors guilt or PTSD but it just seems like the easiest answer.

Yet they're treated like they supported Hitler. Absolutely disgusting! (little side-note: Spell check doesn't recognize Hitler as a word. XD)

So the way I see it is you take the bear because in war people take things that mean something to them to keep morale up. You get taken to his home when he was young and his father died in war, hence going to the jacket to attend the funeral. You then return home using the bear which you cling to so your mother takes you to counselling to try and break that bond, the course involving medication. No matter what the councillor says it just reminds the soldier of his father and of going to war to be like his Dad, resulting in his death.

I think that maybe, the soldier who was shot is a british soldier fighting in WW2. I think this because he clearly has a very young child (because there’s a cot and a teddy bear), and the reason the teddy bear is at the funeral is because its the funeral of the dead soldier, and the child went to their dads funeral (and took the bear with them). The train station scene could be the child, when they’re a bit older, being evacuated to the countryside (which is what happened to british kids during the war).

his life is flashing before his eyes

he's thinking of all his memories an even loved ones an that teddy bear is his sons or daughters that he kept to remind him of his child

the letters r from his wife or child that wants to know if he's ok an safe

that's the gun that he saw kill him

the pills r what helped him stay sane an help him not get traumatized

    am i wrong

Idk but I think this is actually a soldier who came back fro the war with a mental illness, so he went to therapy and took pills. Eventually the pills didn't work so suicide was the only option. He didn't die from getting shot by someone else he shot himself.

I can only guess that Teddy bear triggers the earliest memories. So the teddy brings you to your childhood home. Funeral was of your father, who too was a soldier. Therapy could be either of war experience or you can't handle your fathers death. Going to war could've been a way to honour your father.
But these are only speculation of what I've understand.

It's a experience about a soldier's life flashing before him like his child.
