Marine Corps Training : Do Marines Have Better Training Than the Army?

Hello, my name is Staff Sergeant Montgomery
with the United States Marine Corps recruiting office here in West Valley City, Utah. Today
we’re here to talk about whether the Marines or the Army receive better training. The Marine
Corps training is longer and harder. In the Marine Corps we do not believe in coddling
the weak. In fact, if a Marine or a recruit does not want to be there, he can simply go
home. In the Army, I think they do believe in coddling the weak. In fact, I have an article
here from USA Today saying Army Reshapes Training to Spare Enlistees the Boot, or coddle to
the weak. The Marine Corps attrition rate is usually around 25%, or one out of four
don’t make it. In the Army, for a while it was 18%, but recently since the Army reshaped
their training to spare enlistees the boot, their attrition is down to 7%. I believe this
is due to the different goals the Army and the Marine Corps have. The Army’s goal is
to have a very large force in numbers, where the Marine Corps’ goals is to have a very
strong force. So you’re really looking at quality versus quantity. So whether or not
the Marine Corps is better than the Army is basically an individual decision. If you would
like any more information and talk further about the Marine Corps versus the Army, please
give me a call at 801-967-9815 or visit our website at www.marines.com.

I like how the video does not offer any opposing viewpoints besides the typical Marine Corps propaganda. Oh well I guess that's why the Marine Corps paid them.

  2. Yessi Guerrero Posted on May 3, 2014 at 4:40 am

A Marine saying Marines have better training. what a surprise

  3. Graham Hill Posted on May 26, 2014 at 3:38 am

Yes u can be a macanin or pilot it's not just run around shoot people like video games

  4. Rick Garcia Posted on May 28, 2014 at 6:39 pm

I don't like the rivalry between army and marines I do PT with both its not the branch that makes a soldier better its the individual that pushes themselves out of there own free will if you want to be the best you will be the best

  5. wesley brennan Posted on June 4, 2014 at 1:41 am

the extra weeks in the marine core is for class history about the marines also dont forget airborne and ranger school

  6. Hugsforeveryone Posted on June 12, 2014 at 2:11 am

you can be a person on carriers to guide the plane to land

  7. chase johnson Posted on July 4, 2014 at 3:27 am

Ok a recruiter or a Command Sergeant Major who has done more tours then this man dreams to. He has been trained and has seen both sides, in no shape or form has the marines had better training, there basically the same and he told me to not believe in recruiters even for the army because they give bullshit left and right. In all respect i like both but the Rangers have more experience then both army and marines and does more. My grandfather has been with the rangers and was asked to be in delta task. All im saying is that this man is giving us bullshit just for us to protagonist against the army.

  8. Steve Pierre Posted on July 9, 2014 at 3:41 pm

The max age limit to join the Army was 35. I think now it 42, Marines has always been 28, so if the army is taking older applicants there must be a difference in training.

  9. Sankarsh Sarangam Posted on July 15, 2014 at 1:52 am

oh my god Marine Corp training is only 2 weeks longer, Army and the Marine are equal to each other, the Marines were originally made to guard U.S. Navy ships, the only difference between the Marine Corp and Army is that the Marines are stationed on U.S. Navy ships and travel by Navy ships, the Army travels by Air to get to far away places. btw recruiters lie all the time, if you want find something about the military talk to someone who isn't a recruiter, they respond to email a lot quicker than a recruiter.

  10. rtguffy Posted on July 29, 2014 at 1:12 am

Before I even watched this video I noticed a marine made it. I guessed it was bias. I was right.

  11. 77musica Posted on August 20, 2014 at 11:01 pm

army motherfuckers are always complaining and talking shit about Marines.  Marines never go around saying "we are better than Navy Seals" NEVER

  12. gamerg d Posted on September 7, 2014 at 10:41 pm

    Army rangers!!! Boss

  13. MotoQuestions Posted on September 23, 2014 at 10:12 pm

In the Marines, you are trained to be stripped of your individuality and have the mindset that you are better than everybody else. In return, you get less job opportunities compared to Army. Army cleans up after the Marines. It's a fucking joke.

  14. Pedro Estrada Posted on October 22, 2014 at 4:46 am

Expert Village you just lost all credibility from me by having a bias one sided video from a recruiter! your being unsubscribed from and the video is getting s thumbs down. and i wont be making your cream cheese icing recipe because it probably taste like garbage.

  15. Astro Nautik Posted on October 29, 2014 at 8:07 pm

girls make it through marine boot. just sayin. two weeks…. oooohhhhh watch out we got a badass….

  16. Azzurro Lcubed Posted on November 3, 2014 at 8:17 am

Liar.  I saw for myself that Marine Corps training is nothing but a screamo fest and a lot of drill and ceremony.  Screaming like a maniac does not make you a better fighter.

  17. guavamantis Posted on December 5, 2014 at 2:18 am

    They have different training dipshit

  18. guavamantis Posted on December 5, 2014 at 2:19 am

    They have different training dipfuck

  19. WordSmyth Reyes Posted on December 10, 2014 at 3:11 am

Technically they're both the same but I have heard that Army does have a harder boot camp than Marines. Honestly when joining the Marines I believe it's not the training but somewhat of the characteristics in the leader or individual person above all too help his or her squad. Marines have heart no doubt but need too work more on intellectual traits as well. I am joining the Marines but I plan to take my intellectual with me along side of my Willpower and I believe that is what will make a real name for the USMC and they will finally stand out of the branch, move up on levels. I plan too do that along side of my bothers. It will happen rather y'all other branches like it or not I am coming.

  20. Liam Gilmore Posted on January 14, 2015 at 10:45 pm

    Marines are always bettter

  21. Black Thought Posted on February 9, 2015 at 1:45 pm

Utter bull…. The Army has always had the highest attrition rate. Followed by the Navy not the marines. Fact, google Dod attrition rates. That means nothing I just wanted to point out his lack of credibility.
The U.S. Army has the best infantry period. If this wasn't the case Marines would have no reason to go to ARMY Ranger school. Yes, the only Marines who can go to Ranger school are recon Marines. 50% Fail. Guess what 50% of Soldiers fail. Same shit

  22. Matthew Hall Posted on February 22, 2015 at 2:26 am

There is more to marine corps training than bootcamp. They learn a lot of drill and ceremony things, but some basic fighting. Then they go to mct or soi, that's where they learn the different weapons systems. The army does that in their shorter bootcamp. Also marines have a swim qual, mcmap and further distances on the range. So I believe the marine corps does have better harder training. In marines it's closer to nine months of total training, army much less

  23. AroundSun Posted on March 1, 2015 at 8:53 pm

"If a recruit doesn't want to be there, they can simply 'go home'!"  LMAO!!  Yea okay!  Is that why all the kids in recruit training go AWOL, especially during wartime when the marines were hurting bad for people.  Why do they threaten you with all the AWOL posters all over the base, or threaten all the kids with the "you signed a contract, you can either serve it here or in jail!" routine.  Telling them they'll go to the brig, get a dishonorable discharge, never be able to even work flipping burgers!! Threatening them with deserter status.  This guy is so full of shit, the military is not going to spend tens of thousands of dollars to house you, feed you, transport you, process you, and train you to simply let you go home.  He is the reason why recruiters get a bad rap, and why so many people are separated prior to completing basic training, or recruit training…

  24. John Manning Posted on March 10, 2015 at 10:52 am

I think Marines have better training since we don't have to do basic again after reenlisting.
    Seems legit.

  25. T-Money2187 Posted on March 30, 2015 at 11:49 pm

I work on a wildland fire crew with two former Marines one recon and the other Infantry. I was in the 101st. I've been out a lot longer but I can still out run, push-up, pull-up, sit up, hike ect both of them. However, if I were the President I would call up the 82nd Airborne or 173rd Airborne before any regular Marine Infantry for an initial conflict.

  26. William Lee Posted on April 20, 2015 at 12:33 pm

I was in the marines from 62 66 9th meb. half of what people think about the corps is bullshit. if you are not ready to give your all. when i say all you give more then you thought you had. again and again.. you have a basic idea whats up. SEMPER FI AND i MEAN EVERY WORD EVEN NOW.

  27. Alexander Higgins Posted on May 1, 2015 at 1:31 pm

I know one thing, no matter what kind of training you do, no matter how hard it is, a grenade, bullet or land mind will do the same thing to the human body. Do not make decisions based on false cinematic images of combat. Most of the people who make these decisions have never seen combat, and they send their sons to ivy league colleges, not to the infantry.

  28. Ted Williams Posted on May 6, 2015 at 4:05 pm

Best thing to do is join who you want to join.Forget that bullshit he was talking about.Just remember a enemy don't give a shit what you are. They will still kill ye.

  29. Russican Posted on May 17, 2015 at 3:17 am

I agree im an 1812 tank crewman in my beloved Marine Corp, I went to Fort Benning, they had army bootcamp, I would see recruits with their cell phones in the weekends, I once saw a drill instructor or drill sgt they call them apologizing to them for yelling at them, (not saying nothing bad about the army but as I say not everyone can be a Marine I know for sure as hell I couldn't be a soldier) I chose the BEST branch for me cause I earned the title United States Marine

  30. the AGNOSTIC formerly known as incomprehensible14 Posted on June 5, 2015 at 5:52 pm

Is usmc training harder? Perhaps. Better? Generally NO. Search: [ Mortality of American Troops in Iraq ] for a demonstration of this.
Also, please search: [ Never Faithful; the Rivalry Between Our Army and marines ] for an explanation of why the usmc continues their psychological warfare against the Army.
Please also watch: [ Semper Bye!: U.S. Army First-to-Fight–NOT the usmc ] and [ Semper Lie 3: usmc RUNS; Leaves U.S. Army to fight the enemy ] and [ AWOL wheeled US marines FAIL to reach Baghdad Saddam Escapes ].

NEVER forget that there's nothing to stop the usmc from lying to you and lies are something the usmc is especially known for. Pay attention to 0:17 where this lying marine FALSELY states as a fact that recruits can simply go home whenever they feel like. At 0:40, the liar marine  tells another LIE and claims the usmc boot camp attrition rate is a whopping 25%! Imagine a branch of the military where they had to pay 25% of their recruits for ultimately nothing beyond enduring various amounts of basic training. If that were true, they'd lose tons of money. There's a reason basic training (for ALL BRANCHES) is first and foremost designed to be PASSABLE. To see the REAL attrition numbers for the usmc as well as the Army, Air Force and Navy, search: [ military basic training attrition (failure) rates ].

  31. Bear Ali Posted on June 15, 2015 at 4:58 am

Its the same shit. They all fight for the same cause. They all go through the same intense training all that matters is they all fight to protect their homeland. Its not called The land of the free because of the brave for nothing

  32. Angel Posted on June 30, 2015 at 6:31 am

But its funny how the marines only allow people with the lowest ASVAB scores to be infantry while the Army allows anyone.

  33. KodredCud Posted on July 4, 2015 at 4:49 am

I'm a Marine and 45 seconds into this video, I can tell it's bullshit lol.

  34. KodredCud Posted on July 4, 2015 at 4:49 am

And he's wearing his tags outside of his uniform.. What a douche

  35. alan stepp Posted on July 6, 2015 at 9:25 pm

…for everyone saying Army is Just as hard blah blah blah…..OK how about this…In my Marine boot camp my platoon 2nd battalion fox Co platoon 2016 we had an army guy who had finished his hitch with the army and then few years later decided to join the marines..
And yes he finished it graduated…but he himself said it was the hardest thing he had ever done. So there is your proof. Funny story during the obstacle course….One of our recruits was so short he kept trying to get over the log couldn't do it…DI yells at him…just go under it .. so like a fool he did DI yells go back now go over it…but he couldn't that's when a fellow recruit figured out the DI was waiting on someone to step up and do teamwork grabbed the short recruit by the Web belt pulled him over. Semper Fi

  36. Ray Delacruz Posted on July 7, 2015 at 2:09 am

  37. J S Posted on July 17, 2015 at 9:37 pm

Wow a Marine Recruiter says that the Marines have better training? I am completely shocked! Way to select your Experts wisely Expert village. How about you get someone that has been in each branch to share his opinions on it. After all they are only opinions.

  38. Luka Mlinar Posted on September 14, 2015 at 9:36 pm

  40. Chris Denney Posted on September 27, 2015 at 10:34 am

When I deployed with the indiana national guard to iraq, the active duty marines that lived in the barracks next to use thought that we were special forces simply because we had better equipment than them and left the wire every night.

  41. PhantomPiney Posted on October 22, 2015 at 8:17 pm

Fuck the Marines its about 11B cause I said so! 🙂 USA …Lead The Way! Move aside marines your slowing us down. lol 🙂

    How do Marines invade countries?

Canada doesn't even have marines, up here a marine is just a wet soldier, really. Do the marines not have trades, just like army? You might as well invent a few more branches.

  51. spencer dean Posted on April 14, 2016 at 8:23 am

lol you're full of shit. the marine corps attrition rate is second lowest, right behind the airforce. wanna talk about people quitting, look at the navy. they have the highest and and ever it isn't no damn 25%.

  52. Paul Nathan Mullock Posted on May 5, 2016 at 2:37 am

Semper Lie, Never Faithful. The marines are a second rate army but their to stubborn to admit it. marines invaded islands and the army invaded a Continent. Hell if you want to be a glorified janitor, join the marines.

  58. Allan Ja Posted on October 9, 2016 at 9:54 pm

Anyone tell me is it normal to join marines? Cause I want to combat

  59. ablethreefourbravo Posted on October 11, 2016 at 12:19 am

Marines are tougher because their basic is longer.

Mind you, after you leave basic training, basic training doesn't matter anymore, and your new unit spends months undoing all of the stupid training they gave you in basic training.

A better metric would be to examine the day to day training regimens of both services outside of basic training. I would wager the two are very similar, which is why there is not a great disparity between the general effectiveness of either force in actual combat.

  60. Tyler Jordan Posted on October 12, 2016 at 3:04 am

Absoulotly no disrespect to the corps and it's marines but seriously fuck this guy and his stupid fucking bullshit lies

  69. Andy Fam Posted on May 29, 2017 at 12:43 pm

you can't compare the Army to Marines. army is the biggest branch so you're comparing a portion of the army to the Marine standards

  70. HoneyBadgerAirsoft Posted on June 16, 2017 at 6:22 am

  71. Uspatriot219 Gainz Posted on July 3, 2017 at 1:45 pm

No the U.S. Army infantry is way harder than any POG marine. In my OSUT we started with 225 and ended with 136.

  74. RED S7VN Posted on September 12, 2017 at 1:01 am

  77. Carlos Soto Posted on December 1, 2017 at 5:01 am

Lies….. the attrition rate for both branches average around 85%. The forces have both revamped training so we dont not waste taxpayer dollars…… this is Marine rhetoric…
They MUST compete with the Army because nobody wants to be the navys bitch and if they didnt compete with the Army everyone would join the best…. the Army

  78. jose guzman Posted on December 28, 2017 at 1:38 pm

I just finished basic training/OSUT Infantry school in Fort Bening Georgia… I can promise you the army doesn't coddle us, this guy doesn't know wtf he's talking about, they were hard as fuck on us and training was good

  81. Soverign Cold-Steel Posted on January 27, 2018 at 6:44 pm

I tell a marine to shut the FUCK..up, clear the shore and get the fuck outta the way so the army can do it's job.marine Corp shore as shit doesn't have the weaponry staff or specialized unitsto handle what the army can handle. U need to be a tough marine in a smaller unit but don't ever think that a highly trained soldier Isa step below a marine. There's unfit soldiers/Marines

  82. Snoopy Vendetta Posted on February 25, 2018 at 3:37 am

Can we all say every army and marine experience is different

  83. HoMiciDE Ru E/S Bompton 135 PiRu GanG Posted on March 8, 2018 at 11:53 pm

The guy in the video is a douche…and this is coming from a marine

  84. Reckless Reg Posted on April 25, 2018 at 3:28 am

Here we go with these comparisons.. funny you never hear someone argue that a sailor is better or worse trained than an airman.. perhaps those with higher ASVAB scores have a better understanding that different jobs require different training, and one is not “better” than the other because each plays a role. Secondly.. I think we can all agree that BASICALLY trained military personnel don’t know shit… regardless of the branch.. but to say the marines are “better trained” than the army because their BASIC training is longer and harder is laughable at best when the army has TONS more opportunities/schools after basic to receive advanced infantry related training.. if you take a marine and put him through all of the marine infantry related schools, will he be “better trained” than a ranger qualified, airborne, special forces soldier?” ..rhetorical..

  85. Devil Dog Posted on June 24, 2018 at 11:33 pm

After Fallujah 2004 and much more, who gives a fuck. I hope war is the last option because it is not a pleasant memory. Everyone on this channel already knows the truth about training. Semper Fi

more the soldier the more can occupy and protect and defend the country thats why the army is the best.

  88. jay yisi Posted on November 19, 2018 at 8:47 am

I was a scout in the Army, and I can't really say who has better training, but this video is horse shit, you can't expect a Marine recruiter to say anything but what he is saying, other wise he would not be right for recruiting.

  89. Steven C Posted on December 27, 2018 at 7:17 pm

You marines are mostly fucking retards that have no education “GO EAT SOME CRAYONS”

  90. Nikolas Makarios Posted on February 19, 2019 at 9:23 am

Don't know where he got his numbers but all the branches hover around the same attrition rate.

The Marine Corps propaganda is hilarious. The Army did more amphibious assaults than you in WW2. The Army was the first in Desert Shield and OIF and OEF.. The Army had half of your entire branch in just infantry.

But you guys make cool commercials and pump garbage videos like these out.

  91. Nikolas Makarios Posted on February 19, 2019 at 9:24 am

    Quantity wins wars dummy.

If the two branches fought each other it would be over pretty damn fast lol

  92. Tedros Abraha Posted on March 23, 2019 at 2:18 pm

The Marines are always the younger and dumber ones. The army attracts more life experienced crowd, who mostly go in for the training and education.

  93. 11Bang19 Posted on April 2, 2019 at 11:56 pm

Look does it really matter where all fighting on the same team here it doesn't matter the Army needs the Marine Corps the Marine Corps needs the Army ! I'm shocked a marine recruiter is telling you the marine corps is better of course he is duh. That's his job they claimed to be so much stronger than everyone else but riddle me this if there truly so much stronger like they clam. Why is it that an Army infantry squad is doing more with less. FACT there are 9 soldiers in Army infantry squad in a USMC infantry squad there are 13 Marines so does your argument of quality vs quantity make sense NO ! It doesn't. Cause let's be honest here people if you join either one in my opinion your joining for one reason and that's to be a grunt . Two the Marine Corps training is longer ? NO IT'S NOT ! Maybe if your arguing with a pog from you might could say something but with a Army grunt No it's never has been if your Army infantry. Matter of fact they just extended OUST training from 14 to 22 weeks. So that's a lot longer. I'm not hear to bash the Marines but you can't really say any branch is better than one cause they all doing the same thing. Now if your just arguing for fun that's one thing I can get that but if you actually take it serious you just need to stop. I'll give the Marines this they have hell of advertising.

Each branch has its own specific advantage.

so why does it matter? I only searched this subject after attending a community event, I met a veteran who claimed he was a vietnam veteran. (did not believe him but that's another subject).. in the end, he was clearly mentally ill and while he claimed Army veteranship, he wanted to fight me after he learned that I was a USMC veteran. I never ever in all my years turned over in my mind who was better Marines or Army… I always thought there were different missions…. I always thought the fight btwn Navy and MArines was stupid… but that said, it clearly is an important topic to some…. but also in the end, when you out there in the shit. does it really matter who is best?

The Marine Corps is usually harder, because we have to be. We simply have less people, so we can have higher and harder standards. The Army simply can't be that picky because they need more people. It wouldn't be possible to fill their manning requirements for their mission if they were as selective as we were. Our entry level standards aren't THAT high, and they can't even hit you in boot camp anymore anyways. If you go looking for tough stuff in the Army, you'll definitely find it. All I will really say about Marine Corps training is we don't a lot of bodies to complete our mission and we don't get a lot of money, so we really put an emphasis on an individual's skill. Furthermore, we MUST be innovative. MARINES MUST be the ones (99% of the time) that are inventing new technologies, training, methods, etc. because we must stay relevant. We have to continually justify our existence to congress, so we must get it right the first time, majority of the time. That is pretty much why we have higher standards. Your average Marine is held to a higher standard than your average Soldier, and outside of their boot camp the Army really only starts to get tougher when you get to Airborne units. Not that the Army is wrong, and honestly, I know a quite a few Marines that left the Corps to go to the Army because the Army is slightly easier. Only slightly. I think Marines should be professional and instead of trashing other branches, just explain what we do and let a potential poolee decide. Take pride in being professional, but don't put other people down. We have to be good team players. We CAN'T do it all by ourselves. America has to WANT us, and we have to BE WANTED, because as soon as we aren't, we are gone. The Army doesn't have that problem. If you're gonna talk the talk, you better be able to walk the walk. Marine Corps recruiting especially is probably the most toxic of all the 5 branches' recruiting, but that is another discussion. I got nothing but love for my Army Brothers and Sisters, I was just interested in the Marine Corps more than the Army. Join the branch that you are interested in the most that you think will best meet your needs and serve you. Semper Fi.
