The Salvation Army in Canada & Bermuda | 2017-2018 Annual Report

I was caught up in the drug trade and the sex trade. I lost my children. I was lost. I felt alone and scared because I
didn’t want to die. The life I was leading I was bound to do so. They gave me a place to stay well I completed my drug court program and showed me love that I haven’t hadn’t had in a very long time. Now they’re like my family. If it wasn’t for Kate’s place, I wouldn’t be here today. I was feeling like a failure as a mother with having to struggle to find food to eat or pay my rent or just to get by. I’m sort of one of those people that you know I want
to think that I can do everything on my own but sometimes you need to ask for help. Salvation Army’s help for me is
life-saving. They’ve given me so much. They’ve given me hope. They’ve given me
direction. They’ve given me the safe haven for my kids and myself. I
volunteer here for the Salvation Army because I want to give back. I became addicted to the painkillers
that were given to me for my back. Addiction turns your whole world upside
down. The drug takes over and all you care about is that drug. Everyone here is so full of love. Their
hope for you can’t help but rub off on you. With the help from so the Salvation
Army, I’ve come out on the other end a stronger and better man. I’m just given a second chance. They said, “If you don’t give me money, I’ll
kill you, I’ll kill your husband or I’ll kill your children.” So we are here
without. Without a house, without money, without a car. We have nothing
but we are safe. The Salvation Army… if you need something, they can help you. They say “Come in! Don’t worry, don’t worry! I can help you.” You can have hope and you know what? I have hope. Thank you Salvation Army.
