"It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it."

The military has thousands of people in them devoted to extracting a 'pound of flesh' from their more active kinetic brethren who actually do the warfighting. Doing two decades in their service I have seen more oft than not the military hammer of justice crush members for mere oversights and never saw anyone get off easy or get away with it. We have made war not terrible at all and we can fight decades long conflicts with rules of engagement so strict our enemy uses them against us.

Now, we have a lawless, rabble-rousing idiot commanding our forces, and all is crumbling. Even Geneva Convention will disintegrate under his foolishness. A powerful military who is a not accountable to anyone, and the Commander in Chief can use these soldiers case to boost his political popularity. We are on a very slippery slope.

When you consider youself a model for other nations…you should look in the mirror occasionally. The entire Iraq war was one huge war crime. Now we double down by pardoning war criminals.
