U.S. Air Force: HH-60 Pave Hawk Pilot

My name is Joshua Irvine, I’m a captain and
I fly the H-60 Pave Hawk. Our primary job is combat search and rescue. This feels a
lot like what you think of as a kid when you dream about flying an aircraft,
actually going out there and grabbing all the controls and making it do what
you want. The great thing about the Pave Hawk is that it’s very versatile, it’s
fast, carries a lot of weight, carries a lot of troops, and yet it’s not so big
that you can’t get into a real tight landing zone. I’ve landed on ships,
glaciers, landed in deserts. When you’re able to go out and recover someone who’s
in harm’s way or who’s injured and needs medical attention, it’s exactly what
you’ve been training for, for years really, it’s extremely rewarding when you
do it. It just feels like everything’s come together and you’ve really allowed
someone else to survive.
