What it’s like to drive a Custom Military Humvee (HMMWV) –

How’s it going everybody? A couple of you guys have requested to see a driving video on the humvee since it’s been completed. So I thought I’d take my time and create one. I just drove down to the boat ramp that’s down the street from my house. I thought it would be a good spot. We are driving the Humvee now, It’s all completed now. I’ve been driving it for about 500 miles so far Which is a couple of weeks worth of driving. I’ve been driving it to school, the store, just all around town. My parents have even been driving it to work. I couldn’t be more happy with it. It drives great! I get asked often ” do I think a Humvee could be daily drive?” I definitely think it could be, I could definitely drive this thing every day. Maybe not long distances, because it is kinda rough to drive, but it’s not too bad. I mean we got air conditioning we got surround sound radio, which I will turn on real quick. I don’t know if you guys could hear that or not. A big thing that I like is the wrapped steering wheel. It makes the grip feel so much better and It feels really good in your hands. It’s not super loud in here, you can definitely have a conversation. especially with this little mat I put down on the floor and transmission tunnel. It made a huge difference in sound. I took it out before to put into my slantback when i went camping and I drove this thing without it and it was such a crazy difference in sound I put it back in here and I definitely wanna make on for my other Humvee. The air conditioning feels great, it’s nice and cold. Once it gets going, it cools down the whole cab This thing is just really nice to drive in my opinion. It doesn’t get horrible gas mileage, It’s not the best but it’s comparable to some trucks. The 6.2 in this one is pretty reliable, A lot of people had 6.2’s in their older Chevy’s, and they have lasted a long time. So I don’t see anything wrong with having a 6.2 in here. It just drives like a 1980’s pickup truck. If you’re okay with driving that around, then you could definitely drive this every day. So this thing is not that slow. It’s not the fastest thing ever, but you can keep up with traffic. Just when you get to highway speeds, you want to keep it fifty-five and under *coughs* Especially if you have a 3 speed transmission like this one. The 4 speeds can go a little bit faster. Eventually I want to put a 4 speed in my slantback, that would be a pretty cool project. Pretty cool video series A couple other things that I like about this one is the LED dash gauges. which I will show you guys. I will insert a clip of the gauges at night. It makes a big difference in my slantback I don’t have LED dash gauges When i’m driving at night I actually hold my phone light up to the gauges just to see Kinda sketchy definitely an upgrade to do The LED headlights make a huge difference The original headlights, they are like candles. The seats that are in here are smittybuilt seats. They feel very nice, they are durable. If they get wet it isn’t that hard to clean off they are a fake leather, PVC leather or something. Which im fine with. Especially in something like this that could be getting wet. I definitely recommend upgrading your seats these make driving long distances much better. They don’t hurt your lower back like the stock seats do. They have quite a bit of cushion If you get them dirty, they wipe right off alright, now you guys can see what i’m looking at let me back up out of here I like having this little window, in the slantback I don’t have a window with that, I’m thinking of using a reverse camera that’s always on as my rear view mirror this thing just drives great you can see the nicely wrapped steering wheel it doesn’t move around,
with these steering wheels if you don’t wrap them tight enough, these will actually slide around and become dangerous. i will make a video to show you guys how to wrap your wheel with paracord * Acceleration intensifies* turn it off see you guys there we go
hope you guys enjoyed the video the driving video probably one of the last
videos you guys are gonna see of this thing definitely sad to see it go I’m
gonna be hopping on some new projects something exciting something new and
hope you guys enjoyed all the videos on this thing and hope you guys learn stuff
too it’s a big part of the channel a lot of the videos I post are to help you
guys out help other people out who are buying Humvees or have Humvees or if you
just like to see the content so stay tuned for more guys over and out

I wonder how a 6l80 or 8L80 would hold up behind a 4bt in one of these. Wonder what the mpg and performance would be like.

Nice video! I plan on having a custom humvee built in the next year or so. Im going to have a 4l80 installed to give me less rpm at a max of 60.

Nice video. I'm a little jalours, because I'ld like to drive a Humvee like yours to.
But the weight of the car and the 6.2 liters diesel engine are to much for me here in the Netherlands. I'ld need an extra job for the taxes and to keep it topped up with fuel ;^D. With prices over 5 dollars per gallon (€1,47 per liter diesel ; 1 gallon is 3,785 liter) and taxes from USD 695 (€764,00) every 3 month, driving one is not an option for me. So I'll stick to your video's witdh are great.
